Phillip Gibbings

Staff Sergeant Gibbings was born in Perth, Western Australia on 18 May 1958.  He enlisted into the Army Recerve on 24 February 1976, and on the completion of his recruit training, was allocated into the Royal Australian Engineers.

Upon completion of his initial employment training, Staff Sergeant Gibbings was posted to the 13th Field Squadron.  He was promoted to corporal in 1982 and appointed as the Field Engineering Section Commander and the Bridging Section Commander.

In 1987, Staff Sergeant Gibbings was promoted to sergeant and served as the Troop Sergeant for Training Troop, Field Engineer Troop and Plant Troop within the 13th Field Squadron.

In 1993, Staff Sergeant Gibbings was posted to the 5th Training Group as a platoon sergeant for recruit training platoons.

Staff Sergeant Gibbings returned to the 13th Field Squadron in 1995 as Supervisor Construction Operations.  A promotion to Staff Sergeant in 1998, saw him appointed as Supervisor Engineer Plant Operations, where he served until 2002.  From there, Staff Sergeant Gibbings was posted into the Squadron Headquarters where he fulfilled roles in current engineer operations, reconnaissance and within the training and doctrine cells.

Staff Sergeant Gibbings was posted to Headquarters Western Australia Australian Army Cadets Brigade in 2012 where he was appointed into his current position as a cadet battalion liaison officer.

Staff Sergeant Gibbings provided valuable instruction on searching operations to all Western Australian Australian Defence Force members prior to deploying on OPERATION GOLD in support of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.  In 2011, he again provided comprehensive training for OPERATION AMULET in support of the Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting in Perth, where he also deployed as a search advisor. In his civilian capacity within the Australian Public Service, Staff Sergeant Gibbings was deployed to Saudi Arabia as the Australian Defence Force Site Manager for OPERATION ACCORDIAN.

Staff Sergeant Gibbings’ honours and awards include the Australian Defence Medal, the Reserve Force Medal with 3 clasps and the Operational Service Medal (Civilian) with the Greater Middle East Operations clasp.

Staff Sergeant Gibbings is employed in the Australian Public Service as a Base Support Officer, Security & Estate Group for Defence currently located at RAAF Pearce WA.

Staff Sergeant Gibbings is married to Kim, and has three children and five grandchildren. In his spare time, Staff Sergeant Gibbings enjoys spending time in the garden and model race cars.
